Description	Lydia Korneyevna Chukovskaya (1907–1996) was a prose writer, poet, publicist, literary critic and memoirist, as well as a recipient of the Freedom Prize and the Andrei Sakharov Prize. She is the author of Notes on Anna Akhmatova, In the Editor’s Laboratory, Herzen’s My Past and Thoughts, Memory of Childhood, and other books. This volume includes three novellas: two works of fiction, Sofia Petrovna and Going Under, and the documentary work The Dash, all devoted to the terrible period of the late 1930s. Book Sofia Petrovna, written between 1939 and 1940, was the first literary treatment of the Terror in world literature, created with no hope of publication and under direct danger to the author’s life. Going Under belongs to another time and to a new wave of repression in the early 1950s. The Dash is a documentary book about Chukovskaya’s husband, the theoretical physicist Matvei Bronstein, who was arrested and executed in 1938. She continued to expand and complete it until the final days of her life.
