Dzhabbarova E. Terra nullius: Roman

Author Dzhabbarova E.
Title Terra nullius: Roman
Description “Every night I dream of this moment: I turn around and see a bookcase in front of me, with an old dressing table beside it and a mirror that seems misted over from within. I make no attempt to say goodbye to the house, because I do not understand that I am leaving forever.” In the 1980s, the protagonist moves to Yekaterinburg from an ancestral home in a Georgian village and becomes an enterprising adventurer in his new life. In the present day, the heroine is forced to leave her native country, where a virus is spreading that shuts down the part of the brain responsible for empathy.

The new novel by Egana Dzhabbarova is a branching text in which the plotlines only at first seem unrelated, before gradually coming together. What does it mean to find a home, and what does it mean to lose one? How does a family history take form? What makes people feel closeness and kinship with one another? As they ask these questions, the characters are always in motion, trying desperately to escape the forces that seek to strip a person of their singularity.
