Rodnjanskij A. Neljubov'. O putinskoj Rossii v devjati fil'mah

Author Rodnjanskij A.
Title Neljubov'. O putinskoj Rossii v devjati fil'mah
Description Using nine films he produced as his material, Alexander Rodnyansky analyses the cultural and public life of Russia from the 2000s to the early 2020s. In his view, cinema reflects shifts in social mood more accurately than opinion polls. In this book, he looks back on his professional path, from 9th Company, directed by Fyodor Bondarchuk, to Vladimir Bitokov’s Mama, I’m Home, in order to understand how totalitarian tendencies were taking shape in Russia beneath the surface of a seemingly peaceful and prosperous life. Those tendencies, he argues, grew out of deep resentment, aggressive militarism, and anti-Western paranoia.

Alexander Rodnyansky is a Ukrainian director, producer, and media manager. He has received many major film awards and is a member of film academies in different countries. Between 2002 and 2022, he worked in Russia, where he produced films and television series, led the Kinotavr film festival, and headed the STS Media television holding. After Russian troops attacked Ukraine in February 2022, he condemned the Kremlin’s actions and left Russia.
