The book is a collection of the artist’s drawings, covering all the letters of the Russian alphabet. Each letter corresponds to a particular Moscow place name, landmark or urban object. This is not a conventional encyclopaedic reference book. Instead of listing the most familiar postcard views, Florensky presents “his own” Moscow: colourful side streets, lesser-known buildings, signs, courtyards, and recognisable details of the city. The book is made in the artist’s distinctive style, with each drawing accompanied by a short textual comment, turning the alphabet into a unique visual and literary art project. |
