Dolin A. 50 (pjat'desjat)

Author Dolin A.
Title 50 (pjat'desjat)
Description 50 is a book by Meduza film critic Anton Dolin, published to mark the author’s fiftieth birthday. The volume brings together fifty texts written between 2001 and 2022 for the journal Iskusstvo kino; only one essay, on Paul Thomas Anderson’s There Will Be Blood, was written especially for this edition. Dolin began his professional path with texts for that journal and later became its editor-in-chief in 2017. The book includes essays on a wide range of films, from festival cinema to mainstream releases, and from American to Russian directors. Among its central figures are David Lynch, Lars von Trier, Quentin Tarantino, David Fincher, Alexander Sokurov, and Aleksei German. The volume contains both Dolin’s personal favourites and major audience successes, including Joker, Interstellar, Skyfall, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Taken together, these essays trace some of the major themes in world cinema over the past quarter century, including freedom, death, violence, madness, human vulnerability, and exclusion.
