Author Habermas Ju.
Title Novaja strukturnaja transformacija publichnoj sfery i deliberativnaja politika
Description Sixty years after the publication of his classic book The Structural Transformation of the Public Sphere (1962), Jürgen Habermas, a key figure in contemporary political philosophy, returns once again to this subject. Continuing to emphasise the central role of the public sphere in the political life of the West, Habermas traces the significant changes it has undergone under the influence of digital media and social networks. Taking an overall pessimistic view of this new digital transformation and noting the degradation of publicness, the philosopher nevertheless also analyses positive tendencies and responds to wide-ranging criticism. Drawing a kind of conclusion from his work in political theory and sociology, the author arrives at the view that Western regimes cannot seriously claim the name of “democracies” without the real involvement of citizens in discussion of what concerns every member of society.

Jürgen Habermas (1929–2026) was a political philosopher, professor emeritus at the University of Frankfurt, and one of the most significant representatives of the second generation of the Frankfurt School.
