Author Uminskij A., Luchenko K.
Title Tserkovnyj avtostop
Description Archpriest Alexei Uminsky was one of Moscow’s most famous priests — he hosted a programme on Orthodoxy on the city’s television channel, published books of sermons, and on feast days and at charity fairs, poets, musicians, writers and artists would gather at the Church of the Holy Trinity in Khokhly, where he had served as rector for 30 years. It was an important place on the map of Moscow for many people, a place they came to in times of both sorrow and joy. Father Alexei organised special liturgies for patients at a children’s hospice, visited prisoners in jails, and befriended people both famous and unknown. All that came to an end during the war. He now lives and ministers in Paris, and the Russian Orthodox Church has defrocked him. This book is the story of his life. It tells of his childhood in Perovo in the 1960s, when Gagarin flew into space and five-storey blocks of flats sprang up in place of the crooked village cottages. It tells of his youth among Soviet hippies and Orthodox monarchists. It tells about a priest’s journey from the enthusiasm of the 1990s to the catastrophe of the 2020s. But above all, it is about the present. It is a Christian reflection on life in a world in ruins. Uminsky’s co-author is Ksenia Luchenko, a journalist and author of the book "With good Intentions".
