Description | Juri Evgenyevich Degen (1896-1923) was an unjustly forgotten Russian poet, prose writer, playwright and publicist. He was an active participant of Petrograd, Tiflis and Baku literary environment. In Petrograd in 1916-1917 he was in close contact with the poets of the "Poets' Tsekh" Georgy Ivanov and Georgy Adamovich, as well as with Mikhail Kuzmin, Vladimir Mayakovsky and Velimir Khlebnikov, with the theater and literary circles around Baron Nikolai Drizen and Nikolai Yevreinov. He founded the poetry society "Sailors of Marseilles". In Tiflis he became close to the "zaumniki" Alexei Kruchenykh, Ilya Zdanevich and Igor Terentyev, wrote about literature and art, participated in debates, founded the magazine "Phoenix", published his poetry collections ("Poem about the Sun", "These Eyes", "Thaw", "About the Golden Linor") and the play "Death and the Bourgeois". The literary life of Ju. Degen did not go well in Baku, the collection "Magic Catch" will be published only posthumously. The poet was executed in Baku on trumped-up charges of arson in oil fields. This book contains the literary heritage of Juri Degen, which is kept in libraries in Tbilisi, Yerevan, Moscow, Princeton, as well as in the private collection of the family of his grandson Alexander Degen, with whose permission we print the poet's texts. |
